The nonconforming voxel finite element method (NVFEM) simplifies the meshing of complex structures by using cubical elements of different sizes. It has been proposed as an alternative to traditional, unstructured finite element methods for electromagnetic scattering problems. Recently a multigrid preconditioner was introduced for solving the matrix problem. It is shown that this preconditioner allows the matrix equation to be solved in O(n) time as the mesh is refined, where n is the number of degrees of freedom.
