The paper shows that currently existing mathematical autotransformer models do not provide a detailed representation of physical processes occurring in the transformer in its operating mode. Main operating modes are considered and analyzed, a universal system of equations for a two-winding step-down autotransformer, taking into account the classical representation of the physical processes of its operation, are established. A vector diagram valid from the point of view of physics is constructed.
