Through interpretations on the Shuo wugoucheng jing (Sutra Explaining Undefiled Praise) translated by Xuanzang, and the Weimojie suoshuo jing (Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sūtra) translated by Kumārajīva, along with references to relevant research by other scholars, this thesis aims to assess the observed differences in Xuanzang's and Kumārajīva's focus on the doctrines of Eight Consciousnesses or one mind in their translations of the scriptural meanings, based on the principle of “one mind encompassing eight consciousnesses” in the school of Consciousness-Only (Yogācāra school). Such observations can help researchers on religious cultures understand Xuanzang's retranslation of the scriptures was to demonstrate that the school of Consciousness-Only can embrace Prajnā, so as to transform and elevate the cultural connotations of Chinese Buddhism to the level of Yogācāra school. As such, researchers on religious cultures can further discover Xuanzang's influences on the Chinese cultures as he led and promoted the school of Consciousness-Only.
