Equipments damage cause by lightning strike was been a hot topic for a quite long ago especially in tropical region. Due to certain component sensitivity level was decreased, so that components easily failed. From satellite equipments reliability calculation shows that the system facing a wear out zone where the hazard rate is increasing. So the appropriate protection level for these equipments to survive during lightning strike would be a challenge. However in this tropical country the study on statistical data for lightning occurrence probability and standardization is fewer even though they experiences on high lightning activities of 200-240 thunderstorm days / year. This paper present the measurement results of the lightning induce surges on the AC mains connected to the satellite equipments. Observation shows that the total surges been recorded was 26 sets on duration of seven months during 11 thunderstorm days. The measurement was done at fours location remote suburban area. The large surges was recorded as 300 A. And estimated value of occurrence probability gives the ratio of 4.4 times higher than the Japan AC mains measurement result. The wave shape of induce surge is 10.2/37.3μs. The rise time is 10.2μs and time to half value is 37.3μs was observed. This waveform was almost shows a good agreement of 8/20μs current waveform on IEEE testing waveform. Calculated specific energy is 6.22X10-2A2s. As a result the surge protection level should considering a higher level than other country.
