Implicit Data Sizing Memory Management Unit for Embedded Systems

In this paper a memory management unit to reducernthe size of the data segment is presented for embeddedrnsystems. Bit feld manipulation is performed to packrnmultiple values into a variable, however, that increasesrnthe code size because of shift and bitwise logical opera-rntions. The memory management unit, which providesrnthe virtual address space with partitions of diu000berentrndata widths, performs shift and bitwise logical opera-rntions to pack values of diu000berent sizes into the physicalrnaddress space without increasing the code size. Com-rnpilation techniques to utilize the memory managementrnunit are also provided.
