ANALYSIS OF MARKET DYNAMICS OF FIXED LINE TELEPHONY IN SOUTH AFRICA

The South African telecommunication industry and market has undergone major changes for the past 20 years due to liberalization and deregulation of markets, and the introduction of wireless communication services. These changes resulted in less revenue for fixed-line operators though a range of voice services and packages were offered to subscribers. There is therefor a need to develop new business strategies to improve profitability of fixed line operators. It became apparent during the study that consumers are demanding relevant products and services which are aligned to their lifestyle and ones that add value. This study investigates the business dynamics in the fixed line sector and recommends strategies to improve the profitability of fixed-line operators.
