The combination of increased aircraft complexity and the requirement to reduce development costs has resulted in a change in philosophy for the flight test development programme from a "fly to find the problems" approach to a "fly to confirm satisfactory" approach. As a result the flight trials programme has become much more of a model validation exercise. Experience at BAe Warton has demonstrated that real time analysis can be used to rapidly confirm the validity of the aircraft and systems models used in the design and clearance process and so enable a more efficient and cost effective development flight test programme. The techniques developed in the aerodynamics disciplines have continued to be used successfully in the EF2000 programme. In addition real time analysis techniques have been successfully extended into the avionics and weapons system areas and development continues in all areas.
