FRAM (Framework for Radio Architecture Modelling) is a distributed simulation architecture designed to research the behaviour of large-scale telecommunications systems deployments. The system is implemented as a set of networked simulation engines each running on a commodity PC. A lightweight peer-to-peer mechanism implementing the Conditional Event Protocol (CEP) handles synchronisation between the simulation engines. We suggest that the underlying structure of this mechanism is that of a Biased Random Boolean Network. The dynamics of these networks indicate that an appropriate mapping of telecoms network elements onto simulation engines allows this synchronisation mechanism to deliver improved system performance.
