The method involves detecting state quantities of a device (2) of the distributed system and performing parallel real time simulation of the device by computing units (8,20) using simulation parameters. The state quantities are compared with simulation model sizes and simulation parameters are changed accordingly. The simulation parameters are transmitted from computing unit (8) to the computing unit (20). The transferred parameters are fed back to a device (4) from the computing unit (20) based on the simulation model sizes. An independent claim is included for test system for testing the distributed system.
