Disclosed is a method for producing a steel product for cold heading, which comprises the steps of hot rolling steel to form the product, cooling the rolled steel and spheroidising the cooled steel. The method is characterised in that cooling is carried out at a rate greater than or equal to 3°C/s, and spheroidisation is carried out at a subcritical temperature for a period of time greater than or equal to six hours.
