The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a porous, nitrogenous carbonaceous material charged at least to the heart with at least one metallic dopant comprising at least the steps consisting in providing a solvent medium containing in solution, at least one aldehyde, an optionally substituted hydroxybenzene derivative, and a polymerizable hydrocarbon compound and source of nitrogen atoms, and in addition at least one metallic precursor of said metallic dopant, said metallic precursor possessing at least one transition metal coordinated with at least one aromatic macrocycle nitrogenous, activating a sol-gel polymerization at the level of said solvent medium to form a nitrogenous carbon hydrogel containing at least at the core of said metallic precursor, having a dry form of said nitrogenous carbon hydrogel, pyrolyzing said dry form in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to forming said porous, nitrogenous and at least fully charged carbonaceous material and recovering it.
