A system (1000) includes: a first movable stage (1088) which is movable with respect to an eye (101) of a subject; a second movable stage (1089) mounted on the first movable stage (1088), wherein the second movable stage (1089) is movable with respect to the first movable stage (1088); a fixation target (1082) disposed on the second movable stage (1089); and an optical system (1083, 1084, 1085) disposed in an optical path between the fixation target (1082) and the eye (101), wherein the optical system (1083, 1084, 1085) is configured for projecting the fixation target upon the eye (101) to accommodate the eye (101), and wherein moving the second movable stage (1089) to a position where the fixation target (1082) is moved away from the eye (101) by an additional amount causes blur cues of the fixation target to indicate to the subject that the fixation target (1082) is moving away from the eye (101) while the size of an image (7082A, 7082B) of the fixation target (1082) on the retina of the eye (101) decreases.
