The invention relates to a method (S0-S6, S13) which is used to determine a target processing state of at least one cooking product (B) to be treated by means of a cooking device (1). According to the method, a user is provided a set of images of the cooking product (B) in different processing states for selection, respective measurement signatures are stored for each image, and if a user selects one of the images, the cooking device (1) assumes (S4) the measurement signature corresponding to the selected image as the target measurement signature.
