11,972. Bouman, T. June 12. Lifting-dogs.- Consists of a device for lifting hay or the like. A pointed hollow rod 2, which can be thrust into the mass of hay &c. to be lifted, contains a sliding rod 5, to the lower end of which are pivoted prongs 3, which are thrust out through slots in the rod 2 when the rod 5 is depressed. To the upper part 14 of the rod 5 is pivoted at 13 a lever 12, and the opposing faces of the parts 12, 14 are formed with two holes 30 in which a pin 32 fixed across the rod 2 is adapted to engage, and so hold the rod 5 in either its raised position, or, as shown, in its depressed position. The lever 12 is normally held so as to clip the pin 32 by a catch pin 20 having a T-head which can engage in slots in the handle 10 and in a slot in the lever 12. The catch 20 is pressed downwards against its spring to release the lever 12 by a cam lever 34, which is operated by a rope passed through an eye in the handle 10.
