13,397. Hill, B. J. July 1. Brakes, hand. Relates to improvements in details of the " either-side " brake apparatus described in Specifications No. 8662, A.D. 1900, and No. 9985, A.D. 1901. The clip k, which is bolted to the lever a and has slots l to receive the pin j of the cranked end i of the cross-shaftf, is formed from the plate shown in Fig. 4, which is cut away at o' and bent to form a dog o which engages one of the inclined teeth formed in the outwardly-projecting member of an angle-iron rack n connected by the bracket n1 to the horn-plate n'. The spring shaft f, mounted to slide and rotate, is supported on removable rollers g2 carried in forked brackets g1 attached to the hangers g. A knob j1 fitted to the crank-pin j forms a handle for operating the brakes, and, when these are in the "off position, the brake lever a rests on a lug, and the handle h at the opposite side of the vehicle rests in the hooked end q1 of the bracket q.
