11,382. Draper, G. O. May 19. Motor road vehicles.-The object is to construct an automobile body with increased capacity without enlarging the outside dimensions of the automobile as a whole. To this end, the usual transverse seat is provided at the front, and, in addition, two seats extending lengthwise are provided at the rear. In one form, shown in side elevation in Fig. 1 and in end elevation in Fig. 2, the two back seats 5, 6 are disposed back to back, and the foot-rests 8 extend over the wheels 9 and act as mud guards. The space beneath the seats is furnished with a door 10 and affords a roomy compartment for tools or luggage. In another form; shown in plan in Fig. 4, the rear seats are arranged to face inwardly, the seats themselves being disposed over the wheels. Beneath the seats are compartments for accessories or luggage, which may be opened by turning the seat boards on their hinges. The end portions of the transverse seat at the front may be without backs so that the occupants can face either towards the front or towards the rear. Boxes may be formed under these seats also. Another form has two seats facing forward and provided with backs as well as the end seats ; this form is for vehicles with the steering-gear towards one side.
