Carpets, rugs, mats, and the like, cleaning.-An apparatus for cleaning or removing the dust from carpets, rugs, mats, &c. consists of a revoluble openwork frame a, of star-shaped form, as shown, or of cylindrical, square, or other suitable shape, having an irregular internal surface, or having the walls or parts thereof projecting inwards at different angles. The frame is mounted in bearings on a frame d, and is rotated by a handle or by suitable gearing, the carpets &c. placed within the frame, being tossed about or shaken, whilst the dust passes out through the frame. An air-draught or suction may be employed to aid in removing the dust. A part of the frame is hinged as at g, or made removable to give access to the interior.
