Links A, formed at S with holes for the guideropes G, are connected at their inner ends to the winding-rope by a chain x or by a bracket, and by chains Y to the cage, and are adjusted in a horizontal position by means of screw links B. In the event of the winding-rope breaking, the links A assume an inclined position and consequently bind on the guide. ropes and arrest the cage. Figs. 5 and 6 show the application to wooden and steel rail guides respectively.
