Stamping. - An apparatus for stamping dental plates consist of a bed-plate 1 carrying a number of standards 4, the upper ends of which are passed through a cap 6. A cylindrical shell 9 contains mould sections 10, 11, the latter of which has a central passage for a plunger 13, screw-threaded at its upper portion, and passing through an outer tubular screw 14, which is screwed into the cap 6. These screws are operated by a " tommy 16, Fig. 5, the ends of which engage respectively the holes in the ends of the screws. The die 21 is placed in a soft compound 20, and a sheet of lead 1/16 to # inch thick is placed over it. Small pieces of paraffin wax 23 are then placed over the lead to fill up the top mould, which is then screwed down by the outer screw 14. The ram is pressed down by the inner screw, and exerts great pressure and makes the lead take a sharp outline of the die. The apparatus is unscrewed and the moulds separated, and a sheet of gold, covered with a sheet of paper to prevent contact with the lead, is placed on the die and the process of compression repeated. In a modification, the shell 9 is done away with, the moulds being enclosed by the cap and bed-plate.
