Hinging and pivoting, methods.of.-In hingedsliding sashes, the upper sash carries two pivot-pins G, G1, which, on lowering the sash, engage sockets formed on arms F1 of brackets having ribs which fill the groove sunk for the reception of the parting- bead. The bracket is sunk flush with the pulleystile and is secured by means of screws. The upper sash is then swivelled. The lower sash is provided with hinges H, H1. One leaf H2 of each hinge normally rests in the plane of the fixed leaf, and is provided with slots H', H2. To swivel the lower sash it is raised, the bead E is turned back, and the free members H2 of the hinges are swung around to engage the heads I' of screws I, which are firmly secured in the pulley-stile beneath the hinged batten rod by plates J. To enable the sash, when swivelled, to lie flush against the pulley-stile, the heads of the screws pass through the fixed members of the hinges into recesses in the sash.
