Improvements in Pentagraph Engraving Machines applicable for the Engraving or Preparation of Flat Dies or Plates.

Engraving.-A pantographic machine, such as is described in Specifications No. 14,709, A.D. 1900, and Nos. 6150 and 12,679, A.D. 1907, is constructed so as to be capable of engraving flat dies or plates. The punch A, Fig. 2, or drill, is mounted on a pivoted bar B and is actuated in a known way. Rails E, E2 which are moved by the pantograph are employed, and from the rails E2 two standards S are supported. These standards are formed of lower parts s2 bolted to brackets s1, and upper parts s3 stayed by a bar s' and formed with sockets to receive bowls s, which support a plate-carrier S1. The carrier S' is moved longitudinally by disks E1 which are actuated by the rails E, and is moved laterally by the rails E2. The sockets in the standards S may receive the brackets which carry a cylindrical die, so that the machine can engrave both plates and rollers.
