Check valves; shocks, preventing.-A readilydetachable inlet valve for compressors, pumps, &c. comprises a casing 2 screwed at 21 for attachment and having an axial bore terminating at the outer end in a recess 9 which is closed by a cap 16 forming a cushioning-chamber. A piston 11 working therein carries a tubular extension 10 which, in connexion with the shoulder 13, limits the opening of the valve; the piston 11 is adjustable on the valve stem 5 by screwing, and is secured by the expansion of the split end of the stem by means of a screw-plug 15. A small leak port 20 is provided in the cap, and a spring 12 is placed between the piston and the casing. The air-inlet ports 7, 8 open radially into the casing and terminate in an axial direction under the valve 4.
