4974. Joel, H. F. Feb. 28. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Reel and endless-web apparatus; moving and changing apparatus.-An apparatus for exhibiting advertisements, pictures, &c. has the period of rest between the cycles of operation controlled by an electro-thermostat. A motor C shown in action drives a worm-wheel F on the shaft of one of the drums of a reel-and-web apparatus, so that a pin F' urges a lever A against the action of a spring A2 and breaks the contact B. While the contact A, B is complete, a current flows through the coils J, and the heated compound bar J4 holds its head J2 away from the contact J3. When the contact A, B is broken, the compound bar cools until the contact J2, J3 is made and the motor circuit is thereby completed. The contact A, B is soon re-made, and the operation repeated as before. A clock may control a switch for cutting-off the current from motor or lamps for any desired period of time. Lamps K, K may be lit up when the lever A falls upon the contact K1. If the current through the motor gets too strong, the coil J heats up the bar until the contact J2, J5 is made, and the short-circuit produced blows the fuse E1. The thermostat may be arranged to complete the by-pass circuit to the motor on becoming sufficiently warm instead of on cooling. According to the Provisional Specification, the motor may drive through a friction clutch, and may have a brake to assist in stopping it periodically.
