18,824. Jardine, E., and Swindall, J. W. Aug. 19. Lace machines -Consists in the provision of mea s for holding broken threads until they are incorporated in the work. A longitudinal shaft A is furnished with a series of sleeves D each provided with a boss D' in which is pivoted a pendent member E furnished at its lower end with a bracket F carrying a foot F' bearing upon the work H on the facing-bar J and a pair of carded rollers K. The rollers K are prevented from rotating freely by springs. The broken thread N is passed one or more times around one of the rollers K and held thereby until incorporated in the work H, the thread being subsequently drawn off the roller K when the work is wound on to the work roller B. The members E are turned about the shaft A out of the way when removing the work roller B. Instead of the rollers K, spring clips or other thrtad-holding devices may be employed. The members E may be provided with spindles L carrying spools 0 for piecing-up broken warp or beam threads.
