March 13, 1914, [Convention date] Apparatus for making. - Drum armatures having closed or partly closed slots are wound by first passing the wire through a slot and winding it in a single layer on a drum f having its axis at right-angles to the armature axis, the end of the wire being then detached from the drum and passed through another slot and wound on a second drum f1 on the other side of the armature, and the process being repeated until all the wire is used up. The armature e is carried on a table so that it can be adjusted vertically and horizontally. Spring-pressed arms i hold the wire on the drums. Each drum is turned through a rightangle when being unwound. The drums may be driven by electromotors fitted with releasing- clutches.
