Automatic signals; mechanical telegraphs. - In apparatus for mine or analogous signalling, a device for "wiping out " the previous signal or giving warning of the starting of the engine is operated by the engine through an electromagnetic connexion, direct mechanical connexion being avoided. As shown, a conducting- disk a is rotated by a belt e from the engine, the marginal portions of the disk passing between the pole-pieces of a permanent or electro magnet f. The magnet f is mounted on pivots, so that by the mutual action between the magnet and the disk due to induced eddy currents, the magnet is swung to one side or the other, according to the direction of rotation of the disk. A roller carried by an arm h fixed to the magnet co-operates with one of two cam-projections h1 to close spring contacts j, j1 in a circuit k, which includes the signalcancelling or warning device (not shown). Springs f1 restore the magnet to the position shown. In a modification, the pivoted magnet is replaced by a series of magnets carried by a disk mounted concentrically with the disk a, the rotary movement imparted serving to operate the switch through a suitable lever connexion.
