137,979. Spiers, W. April 30, 1919. Circular machines, particularly multi-feed types, are provided with yarn-controlled devices which operate the stopping-gear on the breakage or other failure of the yarn supply, and are automatically reset. The yarns A pass between co-axial rings M, N and support yarn-fingers B pivoted at B2 and provided with adjustable tension weights B4 The inner end B3 of each finger engages a rod C sliding in a fixed part D. A small amount of variation in the tension of a yarn A is compensated for by the movement of the corresponding finger B, which causes the bight of the yarn to lap on the rod N with a varying angle of contact. Should a yarn break or slacken sufficiently to cause defective knitting, the corresponding rod C is moved upwards to swing a latch E about its pivot E2 and thus release a catch F pivoted at F1 to a part of the cover L. The catch F has a slot at right-angles to the movement of a slide G connected to the stopping-gear, the slide being normally held from movement under iufluence of a spring H by a screw G10 which works in the slot. When the catch F is freed, so allowing the slide to move, and stop the machine, a roller G6 or. an arm G' projecting from the slide runs over the cam-edge, of a lever J and depresses a spring-controlled plunger K. A plate, K2 at the lower end of the plunger K is thus moved to the dotted-line position into contact with the arms B3 and resets in the normal position any finger B the thread of which has been broken.
