227,459. Soc. A. Descamps. Jan. 10, 1924, [Convention date]. Void Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Softening fibres; drawing-frames. -In the treatment of fibres while they are in the state of slivers or rovings and before they pass to the roving and spinning frames, the slivers from the drawing-frame are loosely cross-wound on a perforated tube, or are delivered from the drawing-frame into cans with a perforated bottom plate, or with a perforated central spindle j, Fig. 6, and a perforated exterior a. The required liquid or gas is circulated through the material on the perforated tube. or in the can. After treatment the material is drawn from the can or tube and dried, and the. dried sliver is softened by being passed between three sets of grooved rollers, the centre pair of which is reciprocated transversely. When dealing with delicate fibres the centre pair mav be situated in a different plane to the other pairs and be given a vertical reciprocation as well as the transverse one. The softened fibre is drawn through a moistening-chamber and coiled in a can ready for the usual further operations of roving and spinning.
