Flyer frames; gill boxes or frames.-A series of gill bars or fallers a1 are arranged between the retaining-rollers g, g1 and the drawing-rollers h, h1 of vertical dry spinning- frames for flax, tow, hemp, &c., to impart a drag or tension to the sliver or rove as it passes to the flyer spindle. The gill bars are provided with teeth a2 arranged, preferably in two rows, in the path of the slivers, and are lowered by a pair of screws c and raised by a pair of screws e'. A cam d moves the fallers from the bottom of the screws c along a plate d' into engagement with the screws e1, and a cam d1 transfers them from the top of the screws e1 to the screws c. The improvements are also applicable to double and multiple vertical frames. According to the Provisional Specification, endless chains, push bars, or the like may be used instead of the faller screws.
