Gauges; work-holders.-In a machine for grinding sad irons, box irons, &c. the irons C are held on a table A by clamps D, E, the clamps D consisting of two curved shoes engaging the pointed end of the iron and having concave surfaces engaged by convex surfaces on arms H pivoted to the tube at K and adjustable by bolts M and slots N; the shoes may be pivoted loosely at S to the arms. The clamp E is moved to engage the iron by a screwed shaft a operated, through bevel gearing b and a, shaft P, by a lever Q, a second lever T serving by means of a detent W to lock the lever Q; the clamps D also may be movable by means of a screw. The faces of the irons to be ground are set all in one plane by the use of a surface plate F, which is supported, during setting up, above the irons. these being set so that their faces contact with the underside of the plate. According to the Provisional Specification, the arms H may bE mounted on a common pivot, and carried by a plate adjustably clamped to the table. Specification 191,521 is referred to.
