Spools of thread, twine &c. - A cross-wound coreless cylindrical spool of twine, thread or the like is provided with means whereby elongation of the spool during use is positively prevented, the means comprising non-rigid end members permitting passage of the free end of the twine secured to or integral with members extending longitudinally of the surface of the spool and parallel with the axis. In one form the means comprises a length of twine or the like a, Fig. 1, wound round the spool and extending diametrically across the ends, the twine being a continuation of that forming the spool or separate therefrom. In other forms a cylindrical paper wrapper d is wound round the spool and is crimped together at its ends d1, Fig. 5, or a projecting strip e, Fig. 3, is secured by adhesive across the ends of the spool, or an extension member in the form, of an apertured disc c, Fig. 2, is secured by a tab o across the ends. A separate band of paper may be disposed outside the wrapper d, or immediately within the wrapper and outside the spool, or beneath the last spool layer.
