292,502. Soc. Provia. June 20, 1927, [Convention date]. Surface - heating apparatus; surface treatment with liquid materials; pneumatic collectors. - A process for cleaning and heating roads prior to coating with tar consists in projecting jets of steam on to the surface preferably accompanied by the suction of dust, which dust mav then be mixed with the tar. Fig. 1 shows vehicular apparatus comprising a boiler a for superheating steam in a coil b, the steam passing to an ejector c which raises dust through a mouthpiece d. The dust is separated in apparatus e, and the purified steam and air is projected on to the road through a nozzle f. The dust from the separator e passes to a tank t and is conveyed to a mixer h together with tar from a steam-heated tank k, the mixture being then spread on the road through a pipe l. The steam may be projected through an inclined pipe f, Fig. 3, the dust being forced into a separator n through a branch m, a vacuum in which may be induced by the ejector action of steam in a pipe p. The pipe f may be inclined forwards or backwards. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also states that suction may be produced by a pump or fan, driven by an engine the exhaust from which is used in the form of jets for cleaning the road. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
