307,047. Miksch, E., and Balder, G. March 3, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Stopping.-Mechanism operable by the movement of the tone-arm for stopping the drive either by applying a. brake or opening the motor circuit or separating the driving gear comprises a pivoted fall lever which is turned on its pivot by the movement of the tone-arm and supports a brake &c. actuating rod until playing of the record is completed, whereupon a supporting member for the fall lever releases it to fall downwards and permit the brake &c. actuating rod to operate. The fall lever 12 is pivoted to a lug 10 on a lever 5 which is turned on a pivot by a forked arm 9 moving with the tone-arm engaging a rod 7 fixed to the lever 5 and extending through the fall lever 12 with some side clearance. The lever 12 supports, during playing, the brake &c. actuating rod 24 and is itself supported on the flange 15 of a head 14 on the bent up end of a lever 6 engaging the forked end of the lever 5 and frictionally engaging a pivot 2 which is driven through a friction plate 29, gearing 16, 17 and 18 and a cord drum 20 from the driving motor so that the lever 6 turns more slowly than the lever 5 and the shoulder 15 remains below the lever 12. When, however, playing of the record is completed, the lever 12 falls off the shoulder owing either to the form of the innermost groove, or to the continued drive of the lever 6, or the inertia of this lever which may be weighted at 27 for this purpose, and the unsupported brake &c. actuating rod 24 then operates. A fixed support 25 with inclined end may be provided to support the fall lever 12 when carried with the tone-arm to the starting position; this permits movement of the tone-arm to find the starting-groove without fear of the lever 12 falling off the shoulder. The brake-operating rod 24 is pivoted and has a brake carried by jointed links which facilitate adjustment of the pad.
