549,635. Magazine gramophones. BLAKE, W. H. (Paillard & Cie Soc. Anon., E.). March 15, 1941, No. 3580. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 22, 1941.] [Class 40 (ii)] Relates to magazine gramophones of the kind in which the record discs are supported above the turntable by lateral columns 62 and wherein when the pick-up enters the last track of a record a spring actuated lever 20 is released and operates a clutch-actuating lever 28, for example as described in Specifications 544,545 and 544,546 to cause a clutch 31 to transmit motion to a cam shaft 35 which makes one revolution to drop a fresh record on the turntable and restore the pick-up to starting position. According to the invention a spring actuated feeler lever 124, 125, Fig. 1, which is normally arrested by the edges of the records and is released when the last record is dropped, is adapted when thus released to move an intermediate member 128 into a position between the lever 20 and a rod 132, so that when the lever 20 is spring actuated at the end of the playing of the last record, it operates the rod 132 to open a switch 152 in the motor circuit of the turntable and to apply a brake 151 to the turntable. In addition, the feeler lever 124, 125 causes another intermediate member 115 to be withdrawn from between the levers 20 and 28, so that the record changing and pick-up restoring mechanism is not operated. As shown, the cam shaft 35 is driven by gearing 33, 30 and the clutch 31 by a shaft 29 geared to the turntable spindle 2. The arm 125 of the feeler lever 124,125, which is on a column 62 is adapted to act on a slidable rod 120, to which the intermediate member 128 is pivoted at 129 and the other intermediate member 115 is connected by a bell-crank 117. The intermediate member 115 normally projects between pins 26, 28SP1/SP on the levers 20, 28 respectively. The intermediate member 120 is adapted to be inserted between pins 127, 131 on the lever 20 and rod 132 respectively. The rod 132 has a pin 134 adapted to pull a trigger 136 away from a rocker 138 which carries the switch member 152 and the brake 151 and is influenced by a spring 139. A lever 109, Fig. 2, is adapted to be set by hand to vary the function of the apparatus, When the hand-lever 109 is set in the position O, normal record changing operation proceeds. When the hand-lever is set to the position R, the mechanism for operating the columns 62 for record changing is put out of action as described in Specification 544,546, an intermediate member 142 is operated from the handlever through lever 108, link 107, and lever 154 pivoted at 141 to dislodge the intermediate member 115 and take its place between the pins 26, 28SP1/SP of the levers 20, 28 to ensure clutch operation irrespective of the position of the feeler lever 124, 125, and the switch and brake rocker 138 is locked in switch-closing position by a rod 145 operated by a pin 113 on the lever 108 ; as a result the playing of the record is repeated. When the hand-lever is moved to the position C, the pin 113 on the lever 108 operates a rod 68 fitted with a bent end 146, this bent end acts on a pin 147 on the bell-crank 117 to ensure the positioning of the intermediate member 115 between the pins 26, 28SP1/SP, a pin 150 on the rod 68 operates a lever 149 to ensure the positioning of the rocker 138 in switch-closing position and the rod 68 operates a lever 71 as described in Specification 544,546 to initiate a record-changing operation irrespective of the position of the pick-up. The hand-lever 109 can stay in position R or O ; but when it is moved to position C and released by hand it is returned by spring action to the position O.
