Mounting spare wheels on vehicles.-Means for carrying spare wheels or rims on motor-cars &c. comprises a framework 1 fixed to the chassis, and a winch-like or winding-apparatus 9 adapted to be connected to the wheel or rim so that it can be pulled up to the framework and there held with the tyre 5 out of engagement with any part of the car. As shown, the rim 5a of the wheel engages a depending part 3 of the framework. The cable 10 of the winding-apparatus is detachably connected by a hook 12 to a plate 13 adapted to support the wheel at the hub. The winding- appa.ratus is retained in position by a spring- pressed pawl 16 engaging a ratchet-wheel 14 on the winding-shaft.
