Grates. - In a fuel banking device consisting of a number of pivoted members arranged at the rear of a travelling grate, air under pressure is supplied to each of the pivoted members b from a fixed duct d through partitioned intermediate members e and the hollow gudgeons g of the members b which are pivoted in the intermediate members. The air escapes from the members b through gratings ! i and, as shown in Fig. 3, may be conducted to the lower parts of the members by a guiding wall n. Ribs r may be provided on the rear wall o of the member b to assist the cooling action of the air. The gudgeons of the swinging members are mounted in divided bearings, the upper part k of which is held in position by a screw. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the air supplied to the pivoted members is throttled by providing the gudgeons with air openings s which are closed or partly closed by the intermediate members as the members b swing rearwardly.
