[Class 80 (iii)] A friction ratchet drive for the counting mechanism of a gas meter comprises two pivotally connected gripping members embracing a drum on the actuating shaft, and a stirrup member pivoted to the driving member at one end and to one of the gripping members at the other end and provided with a projecting tooth engaging a notch in the free end of the other gripping member. As shown, the gripping members 9, 10, embracing the drum 15, are pivoted on a pin 13 and the free end of the member 10 is connected to a stirrup member 6 that is pivoted at its other end to the driving rod 4. The stirrup 6 is provided with a projecting tooth 14 which engages a notch 16 in the gripping member 9.
