[Class 64 (ii)] In apparatus for heating solids or liquids comprising an inner container 1 for the substance to be heated and an outer container 2 carrying the heating element 21, the heat sensitive element 16 of the thermostat regulating the element 21 is mounted in a recess in the wall of the receptacle 2 in close proximity to container 1. This arrangement of the thermostat, is designed to render the instrument more sensitive to the temperature of container 1 than that of the receptacle 2 while at the same time leaving the container 1 free for removal. The thermostat may be resiliently mounted on springs 30 so that a conducting plate secured to the thermostat may be pressed into intimate contact with the container 1.
