[Classes 75(i) and 75(iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A lighter having a container with an absorbent support for liquid or gaseous fuel is provided with a gas flow regulating device associated with a closure device of the burner. The gas flow regulating device may comprise a rotary conical key 2, bored as at 2a, this key being set, if desired, in a fixed position for any particular fuel. The closure device may comprise a conical valve 4, Fig. 2, so that when the burner 5 is depressed by any suitable means against the action of a spring 7, gas may flow past the valve to the burner. In a modified form the valve 4 may be flat and abut against a synthetic rubber washer. An additional valve 8, Fig. 3, may be provided sliding in the valve 4 so that when both valves are depressed, gas may flow to the burner, but the container is maintained gas-tight should one of the valves 4, 8 fail to operate.
