614,098. Reciprocating Motors. SCHILD & CO. SOC. ANON. July 5, 1946, No. 20148. Convention date, Jan. 11. [Class 35] [Also in Group XVIII] A device for the electric winding-up of the barrel spring of a clockwork mechanism comprises an electromagnet 1, adapted to be fed from a source 28 of electrical energy, and an armature 4 which can oscillate between the polepieces 2, 3 of the electromagnet 1, characterised in that the armature 4 carries a pawl 9 which is adapted to rotate a ratchet-wheel 10 for rotating the axle 11 of the barrel 12 of the clockwork mechanism to wind up the spring 13 and in that the ratchet-wheel 10 is also in engagement with a stop pawl 15 carried by a pivotable arm 14 which supports a rod 20 provided with a contact 21 which is adapted to control the passage of the electric current to bring about oscillation of the armature 4 until the spring 13 is sufficiently tensioned, whereupon the armature is no longer oscillated until the tension of the spring 13 again falls below a desired minimum value. The device operates as follows: when the tension of the spring 13 falls to a minimum the arm 14 is pulled by a spring 19 against a stop 18, whereupon the contact 21 touches a conductor plate 23 carried by an insulated fork 22 loosely mounted on the axle 5 of the armature 4. The circuit to the electromagnet 1 is thus completed and the electromagnet is energized, the armature 4 is rocked counterclockwise, breaking the electric circuit and the pawl 9 steps on the ratchet wheel 10. A spring 7 then resets the armature 4 and the operation continues as before. When the spring 13 is sufficiently tensioned the force exerted on the pawl 15 by the ratchet wheel 10 causes the arm 14 to pivot until it abuts a stop 17 in which position the member 21 is disengaged from the plate 23.
