667,546. Auxiliary air admission. GUINCHARD, J. E. May 8, 1950, No. 11440/50. Class 7(ii) A stationary plate 2 disposed in operative association with the engine carburetter has an aperture 3 for the admission of auxiliary air to one end of a tube 4 connected at its other end to the interior of the induction pipe, the aperture 3 being operatively opened and closed during closing and opening movements respectively of the carburetter throttle valve 19 by means of the action of the valve 19 on superimposed plate valve elements 7, 8 rotatably mounted with mutual lost motion on the plate 2, the element 7 having an aperture 13 co-acting with the aperture 3 and the element 8 being an elongated strip of sufficient width to cover the aperture 13. The element 8 is rotated from the throttle valve operating lever 18 by a link 16 connected to an adjustably mounted arm 16x, and has a projection 15x engaging with considerable play in an aperture 14 in the element 7 to rotate it. During throttle opening movement, the element 8 covers the aperture 13, as shown in Fig. 4, throughout the passage of the latter across the aperture 3 and across a surface groove 3x communicating therewith. During throttle closing movement, the play between the members 14, 15x causes the element 8 to uncover the aperture 13 and the groove 3x and aperture 3 are thus uncovered therethrough in turn. When the throttle valve 19 is fully closed, the aperture 13 has passed beyond the aperture 3, and auxiliary air admission is prevented. The tube 4 is soldered to the plate 2. and communicates with the induction pipe through a flexible tube 5, which may be connected to the induction pipe at -the existing air entry thereto of a windscreen wiper suction tube, or independently thereof The elements 7 and 8 are preferably made of dissimilar metals, such as brass and steel. The plate 2 may be secured to the carburetter as by an existing bolt 20. Specification 652.930 is referred to.
