Class 38 (v) In switchgear of the withdrawable type including a circuit-breaker A having terminals ASPI/SP, ASP2/SP and arranged normally, to connect a fixed line terminal D to either of two busbar terminals E, F, a potential transformer terminal G is connected to the line on the supply side of a current transformer J, the other side of which is connected to terminal D, so that the line may be earthed by connecting the breaker A between terminal G and an earthed terminal K, after removal of the potential transformer H. The terminal K and a further earthed terminal L provide for earthing of either busbar terminal by withdrawing the breaker (vertically, as shown), moving it transversely (horizontally) and raising it to connect the terminals ASPI/SP, ASP2/SP to the selected adjacent fixed terminals, which are all equi-spaced in a straight line. Horizontally-withdrawable switchgear may be used, in which case the transverse movement may be horizontal in another plane, or vertical.
