692,579. Making crepe paper wadding. HEYS, R. C. Aug. 27, 1951. [Sept. 14, 1950] No. 22589/50. Classes 96 and 140. Paper 9 on a drying cylinder 7 moving at e.g. 2000 ft./min. is creped at 8, fed to a guide-roll 10 which delivers it to one or other of two travelling permeable bands 1 about which it is wound to form cellulose wadding, the plies being united with the aid of a water mist sprayed at 17 and suction of rolls 2, 3 and of a box 18. When a sufficient thickness has been wound as indicated by a counter 19A, the web is cut at 16 and the wadding cut at 12, by air jets, the wadding falling at 13 to a conveyer 14 and the paper 9 fed to the other of the two permeable bands, its transfer being effected by a changeover of suction e.g. in one roll 2, one box 18 and one roll 3 to pressure, and from pressure to suction in the other roll 2, box 18 and roll 3, whereupon the cycle of operations is repeated. A dust box 21 is fitted. In modifications ; (1) the boxes 18 are substituted by smaller boxes and (2) the paper from the guide roll 10 passes between a pair of rolls which forward it to one of the two bands 1, both of which travel oppositely to the direction of the corresponding bands 1 of Fig. 1.
