Class 5(ii) A trough 1 for a chicken brooder is divided into compartments by a detachable member, Fig. 3, which is mounted within it, and has integrally-formed partitions 15. The trough, Fig. 2, is formed of metal, with an end wall 3 and side-walls 5, 7, and the member 1, Fig. 3, has a corresponding end-wall 11 with an inturned flange 13, the partitions 15 being pressed up out of the base 9 leaving apertures 27 which are normally covered by the trough-bottom. The flange 13 and partitions 15 prevent the chicks. from entering the trough, and a wire-mesh frame 19, hooked over slots 23' in the walls 5, 7 and resting on the partitions, forms an additional barrier.
