Improvements relating to brooder systems for raising chicks

859,315. Chicken brooders. SPINK, A. E. March 26, 1959 [April 2, 1958], No. 10526/58. Class 5(2). A brooder system cpmprises containers for the chicks removably supported on heated shelving. Each container comprises a metal base 1, an intermediate portion comprising frames 3, 4 spaced apart by vertical rods or wires 6, between which the chicks are able to gain access to food and water troughs and a top 7 having transverse laths 9 on one side. Thus by inverting the top 7 so that the laths 9 engage the frame 4, the chicks are afforded more head room as they grow larger. The containers are supported in racks of heated shelving, the latter being heated electrically, or by hot water or steam pipes, the heat being controlled thermostatically, and being transferred direct to the bases of the containers.
