A loom swell is made wholly or partly of rubber or like compressible material and is provided with inclined elongated openings 7 so that as the shuttle enters the box the swell is compressed transversely of the box. Bridge pieces 7a may span the openings 7. An adjustable stop 9 limits the backward movement of the swell and this movement may operate the frog finger. The face 5 of the block may be covered with a synthetic plastic material reinforced by a fabric. The end 6 of the block may be curved to correspond to the shape of the shuttle nose.
