24,653. Hollingworth, E., and Paton, W. Nov. 13. Loom stop-motions; checking shuttles.-Relates to means for stopping the loom when a shuttle fails to be properly boxed. The incoming shuttle b, Fig. 2, first acts on, and is checked by, the inclined or curved edge a' of the swell or binder a, which moves freely within limits in the brackets c and is kept in position by a spring or springs d. The inner end of the binder a is thus forced away ; but when the shuttle engages the straight part a111 at the outer end of the binder, which only occurs when the shuttle is wholly within the box, the outer end a111 of the binder is forced away as shown in Fig. 3, forcing over the protector finger e, oscillating the rock-shaft f, and causing the usual dagger to assume its inoperative position. If the shuttle is not properly boxed, the outer end of the binder is not forced away, the dagger remains in its operative position and the loom is stopped. The binders a may be applied or removed by the withdrawal of retaining-pins d.
