[Classes 142(i) and 142 (iii)] Means for actuating a shuttle - box swell, which is pivoted to the shuttle - box, comprise arms j, k, which engage at opposite sides of a blade i, Fig. 1, carrying the swell b, the arm j being operated by lever- and-link mechanism from a camr, Fig. 4, to withdraw the swell before the cam s operates the picker, and the arm k being secured upon a spindle u carrying a blade v which should the shuttle not box, engages a catch w to apply the main brake of the loom and also to cut off the supply of current to the loom motor. The swell is supported in its outermost position by a light spring d, Fig. 1, and when depressed by the shuttle, engages a stronger spring g.
