摘要
Textile material composed of non-animal fibres is treated with a solution in an organic solvent of a high molecular weight synthetic linear polyamide which is substituted with alkoxymethyl or hydroxymethyl groups on the carbonamide nitrogen atoms. The treatment may be followed by a further treatment with an aqueous solution of a compound, e.g. a mineral acid, which will hydrolyse the substituted polyamide to its unsubstituted form. Textile material treated with hydroxymethyl substituted polyamide may alternatively be further treated with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide or sodium sulphite or heat-treated to restore the polyamide to its unsubstituted form. The solvent may be ethyl or methyl alcohol and may contain up to 40 per cent of water. The material may be treated as loose fibres, yarns, fabrics or made-up goods. Pigments may be included in the treating solution. In examples, nylon, nylon-viscose rayon, and cotton fabrics are treated with solutions of N-methoxymethyl nylon or N-ethoxymethyl nylon. Specifications 573,482, 576,363, and 692,380 are referred to.
