806,037. Controllers. OFFICINE MECCANICHE RIUNITE S.p.A. March 6, 1956 [May 9, 1955], No. 6960/56. Class 38 (3). A drum controller for hoists and the like is keyed to a shaft 20 and is actuated through bevel gearing 18, 19, from a shaft 21 which is, in turn, coupled to a shaft 22 by means of spur wheels 23. A slotted sector 24 is keyed to the shaft 22, the slot being traversed by the shank of an operating handle 27 which is pivoted on spindle 28 in fork 29. The shaft 31 of another control drum is coupled through a chain drive 30, 32, 33, to a spindle 34 in the fork 29. The arrangement is such that movement of the handle 27 in one plane actuates only the shaft 22 and hence the upper drum, whilst movement in a plane at right angles to the first actuates only the chain drive and therefore the lower drum. A combination of these two movements of the handle provides simultaneous actuation of both control drums, when the handle performs a circular movement, for example. Release of the handle allows it to be returned to its neutral position. Spring-operated switches may be accommodated within the handle. The control gear is enclosed by a housing 14 having a side extension 16. In one arrangement, two similar housings are provided around the sides and back of a seat mounted on a circular hollow pedestal through which the leads to the control drums are passed, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown). The seat is adapted for limited circular movement with a foot-operated brake to hold it in a desired position. A circular foot-rail is provided for the operator. In another arrangement, the two casings are separately mounted upon columns 37 with a space for the operator to stand between them, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). As shown, adjustment of the position of the casing is provided by a screw 41 in a mounting bracket 40 and engaging a slot 42 in the casing.
